Sponsor a Dog
From time to time, Canine Comfort comes across dogs that, for a variety of reasons, are unadoptable. When this happens, we have two choices, either keep the dog for the rest of it’s life or have the dog put down. Obviously, we cannot do the latter so we end up taking in the unadoptable dogs. To help offset the costs of caring for these dogs, Canine Comfort is hoping people who may not be able to have a pet due to health (allergies or disabilities) or “No Pets Allowed” living situations will be interested in helping to support a dog in need.
Canine Comfort currently has an adult Husky, called Ringo, that has been neglected and abused to the point that he is not suitable for adoption. This dog, through no fault of his own, will stay with Canine Comfort for the duration of his life.
Canine Comfort needs several sponsors to help support one of our lovable, but unadoptable dogs, Ringo. He needs wholesome food, regular veterinary care and housing supplies. A dog this size needs 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of food per day at a cost of $45.00 per month. To make this as easy as possible for those interested in sponsoring Ringo, Canine Comfort is asking for a minimum of three interested parties to sponsor him for a monthly donation of $15.00 each. If we had four sponsors, that would help pay for the straw for his bed that keeps him warm in winter and comfortable in the summer.
In exchange for your sponsorship, Canine Comfort will send, by email, a photo and an update on what Ringo is doing and learning each month. Canine Comfort is very excited to be able to make the rest of Ringo’s life fulfilling and comfortable. We thank all those people who love dogs and wish to help.

RingoOn January 15th, 2009 Ringo was accused of biting someone. Due to the lack of Rabies vaccination enforcement, Canine Comfort co-founder Kathy Sweeney held him in quarantine for 10 days at the City of Aniak’s expense. During this time, we learned that Ringo, born in the spring of 2006, was regularly tormented by drunks while passing his area where he was chained. Ringo had been running loose for a few weeks and during this time had been in many dog fights. He was so chewed up, he had dried blood matted into his coat and cuts and scars on his face. Once the quarantine was completed, Canine Comfort took on the care and training of Ringo. He was given a bath hoping he would not be too touchy about his wounds being cleansed. He was so good and even loved the major scrubbing he so badly needed. His wounds healed very quickly once he was clean and feeling special. More importantly, he was given a rabies vaccination. Since Ringo is three years old you can imagine that he is pretty set in his ways. He has gained weight now that he is fed regularly and is very strong. He would like to fight with other male dogs if he could get to them. In April, Dr. Robert Sept was in Aniak on his regular veterinary visit and neutered Ringo. We hope this helps calm the male urge to fight. He has learned to sit nicely for his breakfast and dinner. He came knowing how to shake hands and he crates nicely and is quiet when indoors. Ringo brought to our attention that he has issues and feels insecure in new or different situations. Canine Comfort has decided that we could never be sure that things as benign as a floppy hat could cause him to bite out of fear of old memories coming to the surface caused by minor changes in his life. With Kathy working at home and being in Ringo’s life almost constantly he is happy and well behaved. We hope he will be happy and secure, with your help, living here at Canine Comfort in Aniak. |
